Abstract :

A l’instar de beaucoup de pays Sahéliens, le Sénégal subit de plein fouet les effets de la désertification qui menace la biodiversité notamment floristique. La Grande Muraille Verte (GMV) constitue une initiative multinationale lancée en 2007 et qui vise à reverdir ces zones désertiques par la réintroduction d’espèces végétales adaptées et durables. L’objectif du projet est d’expérimenter la culture et la mise en valeur de 03 espèces végétales ciblées par la GMV sous le climat de Saint-Louis et de former les populations locales à gestion durable et la valorisation de ces plantes. Il s’agira d’une expérience pilote menée au sein de l’université Gaston Berger et qui s’intègre dans le cadre du futur jardin botanique de Saint-Louis. Après identification et aménagement des plans, les 03 espèces seront semées et cultivées avec les l’aide des étudiants en agroécologie de l’UGB. Parallèlement, nous mènerons des activités de formation au profit des femmes et de valorisation/vulgarisation des utilisations médicinales, alimentaires et cosmétiques des plantes. Les résultats attendus de ce projet permettront d’adapter la culture de ces espèces au climat de Saint-Louis en vue d’une multiplication au profit de la GMV mais également d’une meilleure vulgarisation de leur utilité au niveau des populations.

Like many Sahelian countries, Senegal ws hit by the consequences of desertification, which threatens biodiversity, especially plant biodiversity. The Great Green Wall (GMV) is an African initiative launched in 2007 which aims to re-green these desert areas by reintroducing adapted and sustainable plant species. The objective of the project is to experiment with the cultivation and development of 03 plant species targeted by the GMV in the Saint-Louis climate and to train local populations in the sustainable management and promotion of these plants. This will be a pilot experiment carried out within Gaston Berger University and which is part of the future botanical garden of Saint-Louis. After identification and development of the plans, the 03 species will be sown and cultivated with the help of agroecology students from UGB. At the same time, we will carry out training activities for the benefit of women and promotion / popularization of the medicinal, food and cosmetic uses of plants. The expected results of this project will make it possible to adapt the cultivation of these species to the climate of Saint-Louis with a view to multiplication for the benefit of GMV but also to better popularize their usefulness at the population level.
