Abstract :

Cette proposition s'inscrit dans une recherche menée au sein du Joint Program on Climate Change and Human Health CNRS-University of Arizona. Nous souhaitons comprendre comment les acteurs d'une région du sud de l'Arizona appréhendent les dynamiques de leurs socio-écosystèmes à travers l'observation de leur territoire, en particulier dans sa dimension sonore. Le projet se trouve dans le comté de Pima, une région semi-aride où le changement climatique a des impacts majeurs sur les sociétés et leur environnement, notamment par des variations de température ou de régime pluviométrique qui affectent la biodiversité ou la santé humaine. Nous cherchons à comprendre comment les paysages sonores contribuent à la prise de conscience des changements en cours et des menaces qui pèsent sur le bien-être des populations. Ce projet vise à mettre en place une installation sonore itinérante reproductible avec divers partenaires locaux (Sonoran Desert Museum, Tucson Audubon Society, Friends of Sonoita Creek). Il réunira géographes, anthropologues, écologistes, écoacousticiens, musiciens et la société civile afin de comprendre comment les sociétés appréhendent les impacts des changements globaux à travers le son. Il nous permet de développer des approches arts/sciences pour sensibiliser et rendre audibles les micro-expériences des changements environnementaux. L'installation permettra aux visiteurs de discuter de leur impact sur le bien-être à l'aide de bandes sonores créées à partir d'enquêtes menées au préalable. L’OHMI Pima County offre un contexte idéal pour ce projet, puisqu’il interroge les dynamiques socio-écologiques et nous fournira un réseau d'acteurs susceptibles de vouloir approfondir leur relation avec les sons.

Translated abstract :

This proposal is part of a research led within the Joint Program on Climate Change and Human Health CNRS-University of Arizona in which we wish to understand how stakeholders in a region of southern Arizona understand the dynamics of their socio-ecosystems through the observation of their territory, particularly in its sonic dimension. The project is located in the Pima County (Arizona, USA) where climate change is having a major impact on societies and their environments in such semi-arid regions. These territories experience variations in temperatures or precipitation regimes that affect biodiversity or human health. We seek to understand how soundscapes contribute to the awareness of ongoing changes and threats to populations’ well-being. This project aims at an itinerant sound installation with various local partners (Sonoran Desert Museum, Tucson Audubon Society, Friends of Sonoita Creek). The project will therefore be replicable (in France for example). It will bring together geographers, anthropologists, ecologists, ecoacousticians, musicians and the civil society to grasp the way in which societies apprehend the impacts of global changes through sound. It enables us to develop arts/sciences approaches to raise awareness and make audible the microexperiences of environmental transformations. The installation will enable visitors to discuss their impact on well-being by means of soundtracks created from surveys conducted beforehand. The OHMI Pima County offers a great context for this project, as it addresses the questions of the socio-ecological dynamics and will provide us an existing network of stakeholders who may have an interest in furthering their relationship with sound.
