Sociologist (ISCTE-IUL) and PhD on Environmental Sciences (University of Aveiro – UAVR). Assistant Professor at the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences da UAVR and Researcher of GOVCOPP – Research Unit on Governance, Competiveness and Public Policies) and Associated Researcher at CETRAD – Centre of Transdisciplinary Studies for Development (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. She was Associated Researcher at IBIMET – National Research Council, Italy, in the research group ‘Rural Development and Cultural Identity’.
Her main research interests are related to Rural Sociology (social representations about the rural, rural development, rural tourism), Environmental Sociology (social representations about the environment, interactions between men and natural resources, conflicts of use of natural resources) and Studies on Perceptions of Risk (social perceptions of natural and technological risks, risk management and risk communication and negotiation).
She has been involved in several research projects both at national and international levels funded mainly by FCT – Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology and by the European Commission. Recently she coordinated the project Rural Matters – Meanings of the Rural in Portugal: between social representations, consumptions and development strategies, funded by FCT and is currently the coordinator of the Portuguese team of the Marie Curie ITN project – Susplace – Sustainable Place-shaping. She is on the editorial board and of several national and international journals.
She is the editor or co-editor of 9 books (4 national and 5 international) and author or co-author of more than 30 papers in both national and international journals, among other.
